Today marks the sixth day of Navratri, a sacred occasion dedicated to the worship of Maa Katyayani. She is revered as the embodiment of strength, courage, and compassion. According to the Puranas, when the atrocities of the demon Mahishasura grew unbearable, Maa Katyayani was born from the combined energies of the gods. She destroyed the demons and established dharma and justice. Born as the blessing of Sage Katyanan’s intense penance, she came to be known as Katyayani.

Maa Katyayani’s form is radiant and divine. She has four hands: one holding a lotus, one holding a sword, while the other two are in Abhaya (fear-dispelling) and Varada (blessing) mudras. Her vehicle is the lion, symbolizing fearlessness and valor. Her appearance teaches us to always stand against injustice and wrongdoing, while also reminding us of the importance of compassion, peace, and self-restraint in life.

The qualities of Maa Katyayani are profoundly relevant even today. Her bravery inspires us not to fear injustice or corruption but to remain steadfast in the defense of truth and justice. Her compassion teaches us to help the weak and underprivileged, to understand their suffering, and to protect them. Her purity and discipline show us the path of self-control, honesty, and integrity in life.

Many traditions also regard Maa Katyayani as the goddess of nature. She represents the power that sustains the balance of creation and the environment. At a time when natural resources are being exploited recklessly, rivers and air are polluted, and forests are vanishing, the remembrance of Maa Katyayani reminds us that protecting nature is true devotion. Conserving water and forests, reducing pollution, and respecting animals are also forms of worshiping her.

I firmly believe that if we embrace the virtues of Maa Katyayani in our lives, positive change in society is possible. Defending truth and justice with courage, working for women’s empowerment and dignity, and nurturing compassion and service for every section of society are the real forms of her worship. Her teachings remind us that personal growth and social service are deeply interconnected.

On this sacred day of Navratri, I pray that Maa Katyayani blesses us with the strength to contribute positively to our families, our communities, our nation, and the entire world. May her courage, compassion, and power guide us to move forward on the path of justice, love, and peace.

Jai Maa Katyayani!
