Mr. Narendra L Mehta

(Member of Legislative Assembly (M.L.A) at 145 Mira Bhayandar)

BJP's Mira-Bhayander East District President, Leader of Opposition in Mahanagar Palika, and MLA. Narendra Mehta.

Born on 25 September 1972 in Desuri village (Pali District) of Rajasthan, Narendra Lalchand Mehta's childhood was full of struggle. When Narendra was about 7 years old, his father died untimely. Being the eldest among 4 siblings, all the responsibility fell on his tiny shoulders.

Early Life

In 1977, Narendra Mehta arrived in Bhayander from Marwar with his parents, elder brother Narendra, two younger sisters, and Vinod. They settled near a grocery shop on Balaram Paril Road (B.P. Road) in Bhayander East. Tragedy struck in 1979 when father Shri Lalchandji passed away, leaving their courageous mother to manage both the shop and the children's education. All the children attended Abhinav Vidya Mandir in Bhayander East initially. Narendra, affectionately known as Naru, later transferred to 'Our Lady of Nazareth Church School' in Bhayander West. At the young age of 12, Narendra began assisting with the shop operations while continuing his studies. Besides groceries, he diversified into seasonal businesses such as selling Rakhis during Rakshabandhan, fireworks, kites, Holi colors, and palm leaves during the monsoon. By the age of 14, he sought additional income opportunities, including selling waste newspapers sourced from Goregaon and Dahisar. He also repackaged salt from large sacks into smaller packets, selling them in local shops for 25 paise to 50 paise. As he expanded his ventures, social responsibilities and expenses increased. At one point, he even drove a rickshaw from 10 in the morning until midnight to make ends meet. Eventually, he closed the grocery shop and in 1988, ventured into selling firecrackers during Diwali. However, he faced legal challenges when police filed a case against him for selling crackers at a young age. The case lasted about two years in the Bhiwandi court, concluding with his release after offering an apology. In the same year, 1988, he opened Bhayander East's first cable business shop. Following discussions with friends, he invested in a VCP (Video Cassette Player) for Rs. 3000. By 1990, he acquired the agency for spices and soaps, supplying products from Dahanu to Dahisar. His routine involved taking orders in the morning, delivering goods in the afternoon, and collecting payments in the evening. Tragedy struck again in 1992 when his mother passed away, deeply affecting the family.

‘Hum Video’ has started.

Due to minimal profits and rigorous effort in the spice and soap business, he decided to close it. Subsequently, he ventured into the 'Hum Video' library on BP Road, renting out cassettes and TVs. At that time, all four of my siblings were unmarried, and concerns about their sisters' marriages weighed heavily on his mind. The responsibility fell squarely on young Narendra's shoulders. In 1996, he began celebrating public Ganeshotsav on B.P. Road and managed to marry off one of his sisters that same year. Navigating uncertain business directions, he purchased an esteem car on loan and started renting it out. Although the business showed promise, the income wasn't sufficient for family expenses. Taking a bold step forward, he established 'Pranay Motors', where each member contributed Rs. 1,000 monthly. A lucky member won a two-wheeler every month through a draw, attracting 500 participants. This initiative arose from the difficulty of obtaining loans at the time, sparing members the hassle of providing extensive documentation. Fortune smiled upon them, and in 1998, he opened 'Bombay Motors', the first two-wheeler showroom in Mira-Bhayander, located on Phatak-Panchal Road in Bhayander East. With ambitious dreams driving me forward, the momentum increased. Funds accumulated from the Rs. 1,000 per month scheme were used to construct the 'Blue Moon Club' in Golden Nest, completed within a year and inaugurated in 2000 by the then Mayor Mr. Prafull Patil and film actor Mr. Sunil Shetty.

Had to sell Blue Moon Club

In 2004, he faced the necessity of selling the Blue Moon Club, which resulted in financial loss. This setback brought him back to square one in his life. Embodying the wisdom of 'Do not lose courage, and remember God's name', he resolved to reinvest the proceeds from the club into the property-construction sector. Using these funds, he purchased the plot for Seven Square Academy and acquired another location in Medatia Nagar for building purposes. His investment in Medatia Nagar yielded a favorable return. Through these transactions, he bought and sold his third and fourth plots, navigating towards recovery and growth.

Establishment of Seven Eleven Group of Companies.

God's infinite blessings began pouring down on him. In 2006, he founded the 'Seven Eleven Group of Companies'. Narendra holds the number 7 dear as it aligns with his lucky number, also reflected in his birthdate summing up to 7 (25th). His journey towards progress gained momentum, leading to the construction of the Seven Square Academy School building in Ghodbunder. The school flourished under the 'Seven Square Academy' banner. Additionally, a 3-star hotel was built in the same area, alongside various construction projects at multiple locations. Narendra's path to success was fraught with challenges and hardships. Following financial setbacks with the Blue Moon Club, he drew inspiration and learned valuable life lessons. The essence of his experience emphasized the importance of committing fully to new ventures while maintaining stability. He also learned the lesson of avoiding long-term partnerships to preserve effective management systems. While acknowledging that adversity fosters strength, maturity, and understanding, Narendra emphasized the need for courage to persevere through life's trials.

Now it was time for marriage.

Despite being the eldest among his four siblings, Narendra was the last to get married, on 16 January 2003. At that time, he was working as a municipal servant. On the auspicious day of his marriage, he attended a general meeting of the Municipal Corporation until 2 pm, with the wedding scheduled for 5 pm that evening. His marriage was characterized more by an 'arranged marriage' rather than a relationship based on love.

Socio-political field

In the realm of socio-politics, he joined Shiv Shakti Mitra Mandal in 1990 under the presidency of Mohan Madhukar Patil. He played a pivotal role in assisting Mohan Patil's victory in the first election of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Council on 24 November 1991. Subsequently, he embarked on various social and charitable initiatives, both small and large in scale. In 1996, he founded Shri Shiv Mitra Mandal, with Narendra Mehta assuming the presidency. This Mandal initiated the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav on B.P. Road, which garnered immense popularity and attracted a long queue of devotees, all attributed to the grace of Lord Gajanan. This successful Ganeshotsav established a significant presence in the realm of social service.

Nagar Palika Parishad election of Mira- Bhayandar

In the January 1997 elections for the Nagar Palika Parishad of Mira-Bhayandar Municipality, Narendra contested independently from the B.P. Road-Khari Village area. Despite strong support and encouragement from the community, including anticipatory congratulations, he faced tough competition from major political parties vying for tickets. Unfortunately, he received only 70 votes and was defeated. Undeterred by this setback, Narendra did not lose heart. Instead, he intensified his efforts in business and expanded his involvement in social service. He focused on assisting the underprivileged and became more active in social and religious initiatives. His commitment to serving the community grew stronger despite the electoral disappointment.

Vijay Shri won in the first election of Mahanagar Palika.

In early 2002, Mira Bhayander transitioned from a Nagar Palika Parishad to a Mahanagar Palika, with its first elections under the panel system held on August 1, 2002. Each voter could vote for 3 candidates, which initially demoralized Narendra. However, undeterred by the new electoral format, he decided to contest independently from ward no. 25. Against all odds, Narendra emerged victorious as the sole winner among approximately 400 independent candidates, overshadowing those backed by major political parties. His election symbol, the airplane, symbolized his journey to success—a testament to his love for the community, his conduct, and his dedication to public welfare. Ward no. 25 was the largest area in Mira Bhayander, spanning approximately 6 km with around 500 buildings. As a young public representative, Narendra organized annual meetings with building society chairpersons and residents to foster community cohesion. Instead of delegating responsibilities, he personally attended to societal issues to better understand and address their concerns. During his tenure as Nagar Sevak (Councilor), Narendra initially cooperated with leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) but found the local leadership's approach unsatisfactory. He opted to extend unconditional support to the Congress party in the municipal house. Over five years, Narendra's commitment to social service became evident, despite not receiving the desired backing from local Congress leaders. Consequently, Narendra chose to remain independent and not join the National Congress. In 2005, he was appointed President of the Bhayander East Division Committee, during which time he spearheaded numerous impactful initiatives for the public good.

Political conspiracy to defame Narendra

A political conspiracy aimed at tarnishing Narendra's reputation surfaced when several issues regarding illegal water connections and constructions were raised during a Municipal Corporation general meeting. As a result, action was taken against numerous officials of the Municipal Corporation. Up until then, Narendra had not been accustomed to the diplomatic maneuvers of local leaders.Certain leaders, involved in illegal constructions themselves, falsely accused him of corruption. This accusation led to a legal case that is still ongoing in court. Narendra maintains full confidence in the judiciary and trusts that justice will prevail in due course.

Should I stay in politics or not?

During that period, political dynamics prioritized personal interests over ideas and principles. Narendra, at one point, questioned whether politics was suitable for him, feeling that systemic change could only be achieved from within. His rivals hoped to dissuade him and other well-meaning individuals from participating in politics. Despite these challenges, Narendra remained committed to serving the people and addressing their concerns. He chose to prioritize the needs and sentiments of the community over the negativity directed towards him, affirming his belief that staying engaged in politics was essential for effecting positive change.

The second election battle of the Municipal Corporation

In August 2007, preparations for the second election of the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation were underway, and Narendra's consolidated electoral division (ward no. 25) was subdivided into 5 parts. This time, there was no panel system in place. Recognizing his past achievements in the ward, Narendra decided to contest as an independent candidate from ward no. 44. Joining him in the electoral fray were four other independent candidates: Varsha Bhanushali (ward no. 47), Prashant Keluskar (ward no. 51), Sanjay Tharthare (ward no. 46), and Neelam Ambekar (ward no. 49). The response from voters was positive, resulting in victories for Narendra Mehta and Varsha Bhanushali. The remaining three candidates secured second place in their respective wards. Collectively, Narendra and the group of five garnered 4800 votes across these wards. Despite the disappointment of not winning all seats, they took solace in the fact that they outperformed all political parties in terms of vote percentage. They cherished the public's trust and support, which remained a source of pride. Their new goal was to strive towards the position of Mayor, fueled by their determination to continue serving the community.

Historical shift

In the Municipal election, candidates from major political parties emerged victorious. The political landscape saw the Congress, supported by MNS and holding the highest number of corporators, attempting to gain control of the Municipal Corporation. Conversely, a coalition comprising BJP, NCP, Shiv Sena, BSP, Janata Dal, and Bahujan Vikas Aghadi was formed to counter this bid for power. An unexpected and remarkable political development occurred when BJP and NCP came together, thanks to the efforts of MLA Hitendraji Thakur and Narendra Mehta. With the support of senior leaders from BJP and Shiv Sena, everyone except Congress and MNS rallied behind Narendra. On August 28, 2007, Narendra's fortunes turned as he was elected Mayor, a position regarded as a significant honor in the city. Blessed by Jineshwardev and other deities, Narendra secured 41 votes against his opponent's 38. Despite legally holding the position for two years, the dynamics in the General Assembly, where Congress held a majority, posed challenges for effective governance. Eventually, one corporator each from Janata Dal and BSP switched allegiance to Congress, making it difficult for Narendra to implement his agenda effectively.

Many public welfare works during mayor tenure

Despite the political conditions being adverse and unfavorable, Narendra Mehta did many important works for public welfare during his two and a half tenure as Mayor. This shows that Mr. Mehta has a development mindset, farsighted vision and plans for the all-round development of the society. This is the list of works for public welfare...
